It’s a bit long-ish at 10+ minutes, but well worth the time. Unless you’re attached to your stuff.
Convicting stuff.

I wonder how transparent salaries are at Piper’s church? Maybe he has more prosperity than he can handle? Perhaps John protesteth too much?
I didn’t get that impression at all. I thought it was a genuine indictment of the doctrine.
I spent a small amount of time reading up on Piper’s salary. I found a href=”http://www.challies.com/archives/interviews/meet-the-ministries-desiring-god.php”>this article at challies.com on his web ministry, Desiring God. It says “John Piper donates all of his book royalties to the ministry and takes no salary from Desiring God”
Also, I found this link that compares his church to another that mentions, among other less tangible things, that his home is worth about the same as mine at $165K (in 2006).
And while his salary isn’t specifically listed, his church has a financial section of their web site including a budget report.
All which give my the impression that this is a guy who practices what he preaches.
Thanks for the response Doug. I think that I should not have generalized and lumped him in with other mega-ministry folks.
I forgot to come back earlier. Without the email feature it is hard to remember all of the places that I have been. Ever think about using http://disqus.com? I think that it is a great commenting system.
Here is another POV Doug that supports what Piper says in the video but IMO presents a more balanced view than Piper does.

Six Apart (Makers of MT, my blog software) has TypePad connect, which is similar. I’ve used Disqus and it seems OK. I don’t like that it places the comment for at the top, but the bigger thing for me is that the comments in these (I think) that as the web site owner, I give up control of the comments. I cannot edit any comments on my own site. I can remove them, but I cannot edit them.
I’ve only edited one comment before for content, but I’ve edited several for formatting. It’s my site and I want that control.
As far as the subscribe to comments, it’s on my list to do. In fact, I already have the plug in to do it installed, I just have to add the check box. I have a major database issue to slave first, though, and there are other things that have been taking precedence.
Well it does only take me 6 clicks (via Typepad) to comment here.. it would only be one click with DISQUS 🙂
I am pretty impressed that I made it back in only 3 days.. remembering where I have commented is hard.
