{"id":532,"date":"2006-07-28T22:00:59","date_gmt":"2006-07-28T22:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/salguod.net\/blog\/2006\/07\/what_have_i_lea.shtml"},"modified":"2021-05-29T02:46:45","modified_gmt":"2021-05-29T02:46:45","slug":"what_have_i_lea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salguod.net\/blog\/2006\/07\/what_have_i_lea.shtml","title":{"rendered":"What Have I Learned?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this month, Pinakidion asked &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/pinakidion.us\/?p=528\">What have we learned?<\/a>&#8221;  I mean, about 3 years ago the trouble that had been brewing for a while came to a head and the world changed in the ICOC.  So, what has it taught me?<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve thought about that off and on for a while, even before pinakidion asked.  Here&#8217;s my list, for now anyway:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Kingdom of God has nothing to do with denominational or organizational boundaries.<\/li>\n<li>Unquestioning and blind obedience is not discipleship.<\/li>\n<li>The great commission is not the greatest commandment.<\/li>\n<li>God did not create me to simply be an evangelism machine.<\/li>\n<li>We should have been engaging the broader Christian community, not seeking to assimilate them.<\/li>\n<li>I need not be afraid of the truth.<\/li>\n<li>The ICOC was built on a rich spiritual history that we pretty much ignored.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is far more liberal than I gave him credit for.<\/li>\n<li>We were &#8211; I was &#8211; appallingly arrogant about what I thought I knew and who I thought I was.<\/li>\n<li>God cares far more about the wounded, broken and bruised than we did.<\/li>\n<li>The purpose of baptism is forgiveness of sins, not to tell me who&#8217;s in and who&#8217;s out<\/li>\n<li>Diversity of opinion is very healthy.<\/li>\n<li>If we want to be blind, we can be blind.<\/li>\n<li>Self deception is amazingly easy to achieve.<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s a time to sound the trumpet.  Even then, it&#8217;s very hard to do.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure there&#8217;s more, but that&#8217;s good for now.  I think that&#8217;s a good question for all of us in the ICOC, and potentially educational.
